This book is based on the life of the author's grandmother, who grew up with local villagers in the Andes Mountains of Northwestern Argentina. It tells how she became a healer for this community by learning to treat the most common ailments that an average villager could have. She uses plants and healing techniques based on her extensive knowledge of herbal medicine, natural remedies and indigenous wisdom. This is a very memorable book – the story is totally different from most other books for children – it’s more on the lines of "real life" and not just a pretty picture book. The story focuses on how an individual can be a healer for others and also learn to take care of themselves by looking after the environment they live in. The author doesn't use any big words or stuff that kids won't understand.
This was a very interesting book because it takes a topic related to animals and show's how they live their own lives as independent beings, rather than living only as a side-kick for humans. It is based on the lives of Snow Leopards as told by a snow leopard to his kid. It describes how he came to be, his strategies for hunting and everything else inbetween. This book is about how a man and wolf travel into the wilderness and become friends with a little cub, and then they both grow into adults and how they help each other survive.
This book tells the story of a boy who asks for magic powers from his great-grandfather – to give him visions – which he gets. The boy doesn't understand why he was given this power until he uses it to help his father out of an awkward situation.
